Smoke Chasing Trip 1(4/2/11) Llano Tx
I hit the road this morning in the cold grey light of dawn.Temp was in the upper 50ties no wind, perfect! After a stop in at the Haltom City Starbucks, I topped off the tank and headed south.
My route was to go south down Hw 377 to Llano, then pick a route home after I had lunch. Just north of Stephenville I spotted this Dr. Pepper sign . Note the in God we trust in the logo.
A short stop at the Stephenville Starbucks for a coffee refill and back on the road. Next stop Dublin to pick up some Dublin Dr Pepper for my Wolf friends. This Will be A great surprise for them they are DP lovers.
After picking up The DP on South I rode. I abandoned my usual hi speed rally pace, and set this day aside to just enjoy the ride. I stopped at lots of Historic Markers and stood in line at Coopers BBQ for almost an hour. This is tough for me to slow down, but I had a great day. Every thing worked Perfect on the bike. I cant get over how comfortable the FJR rides. I have just about got it set up perfect for me.
My Last stop before heading North was Coopers BBQ. You have not had BBQ till you eat here!
When you order you just walk up to the open pit and gaze in at about 300 lbs of smoked meat of all kinds. Chicken, Sausage ,Brisket, Rib Eye stakes, Pork Chops the size of a Toaster. The even offer Smoked Tenderloin. If you like sauce they just dunk it in a huge bucket of sauce. Then it is onto a bare tray. When you take it inside you pick a drink and your choice of sides. Then you pay by the pound. I had a half a chicken and a large tea. It was About 5.50 and well worth twice the price.
There is white bread and Pickles on the pick-nick tables. Everyone just hangs out and visits. I think I was the only one there that did not buy several pounds to take home. It was a blast to watch how many people would just lock up when the pit was opened. they were just mesmerized at the sight of that much food.
This Smoke Chasing Bonus is special to me. When I was a youngster my dad took me to Coopers when we would Deer hunt in Central Texas. It is always fun to have your childhood memories joged.
Well here it is My First Boni for the Smoke Chasing Tour. As required my Bike, the Sign and my Smoke Chasing Passport all in the picture. Coopers is listed as Eddies Favorite BBQ joint in the Entire Nation . I am glad I could make it my first stop.I put on 460 miles this trip, next weekend I head to Fla. Al. Ms.La. and maby more. Watch for the Story From The Road.
