About My Bike
Lighting : Or maby I should say Lightening! I ride as much after dark as I do doing the day and I like to see where I am going. In the stock sockets I have a set of Phillips HID hi/lo bulbs. I chose them because they are much brighter than stock and draw less power. On the outside you see the PIAA HID driving lights. They shine way down the road, so I can keep an eye out for those pesky varmints that like to hang out on the back roads late at night. Mounted more inboard you see the Clearwater Lighting Krista dimable LED lights . These things are relly cool they draw very little current. You can dim the light to fill in what your low beams miss. This way you don’t blind oncoming drivers. Then when you flip on your high beams they come on full power. They are bright. They come with great wiring and good brackets that fit your bike. I also have my PIAA’s wired via a relay to the high beam switch. They are only on when I am using my brights. It keeps things safer that way. I don’t want to be flipping a bunch of switches when a car rounds a corner and I need to get light out of there eyes. Here is a close up of the way I mounted my Aux.
lights. I like the brackets that came with the Krista’s so much I change to the. I also did The European marker light modification. it is kinda cool and is well documented on the FJR forum. It cost less than 50 bucks to do an can be used as marker lights or wired into the turn signals,to give you a bit more flash. I ran down to the local Crotch Rocket Dyno shop and picked up itty Bitty LED’s that plugged right into the Yamaha sockets. The color is almost the same as my HID headlights.
View from the Drivers Seat. Well there is just a bunch going on for the pilot of this ride. on the far left , the Voltage Meter, just right of that is the Radar dector. under that is a LED that notifies me that my Laser jammer is active. Then just Right of that is brightness control for my Krista LED lights. Above that GPS #1 . A Garmin Zumo 770 I use it to navigate, it tells me where to turn, Via the Audio Mixer under the seat. Below that is A
Garmin Nuvi 550 GPS I use it to keep up with my time averages, distance to next turn and technical things like that . Back up on the dash to the right of the main GPS, is a switch Pannle. this is where I can turn on or off my Headlights, Driving lights Krista LED’s ,control the power to my #2 GPS so I dont loose my time averages when I turn the key off, power the charger in my Pelican Case to keep my Video Camera and Laptop charged. And I even Have a spare, you know just in case. To the right of the switch pannle is the control for my heated grips. on the right Handel bar is my drink holder. On the left is the J&M CB radio. Just under that is the MC Cruise electronic cruise control.
